Croydon Symphony Orchestra out-did themselves performing this year's International Needs charity fundraiser: International Classics led by the dynamic conductor Darrell Davison.
The concert included Rhapsody in Blue, Capriccio Espagnol, Tales of Vienna Woods, March Slav and Ballet Egyptien. The programme also featured Songs from the Auvergne, Tango Fantasia, Javanese Dragon Dance and ‘Rio Fireworks Fiesta’.
The solo pianist John Paul Ekins and the soprano Claire Filer were both incredibly talented, and performed some beautiful and complex arrangements. We were also very lucky to hear a piece written by Emily Jackson, winner of Young Composer of the Year 2014. It was a wonderful evening and we look forward to doing it again next year.
The event has once again been sponsored by Pi Consulting and proceeds from the ticket sales is going towards the work of International Needs. £1,442 was raised through the donation buckets at the end of the evening, and sale of the programmes raised over £300. The last four concerts before this one raised collectivley £24,000.
International Needs hosted a pre-concert reception before the concert in the Terrace Lounge at Fairfield as a way of thanking you for your support. It was fantastic to meet some of our committed supporters, many of you for the first time! We hope that you had as good a time as the staff did discussing our work, and hearing from the National Director, Peter Staley.
Once again, many thanks for attending, and do please let us know what you thought of the evening, email@example.com
