HIV/AIDs education in Ghana
In rural and remote areas of Ghana traditional taboos are still strong. Education and open discussion on sexuality and reproductive health are still frowned upon. So even now through ignorance young people face huge dangers from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS.
Adolescents and young adults need adequate and reliable information to enable them to make the right decisions and choices.
Training and testing centres
We have opened counselling centres and trained peer educators and counselling officers. We have provided voluntary counselling and testing to encourage earlier diagnosis We have broadcast information via FM radio stations and provided care and support for people found to be living with HIV/AIDS or those who test positive during the community level counselling sessions.
Reaching more
So far this valuable service has reached 100,000 people. Now we want to extend this project into new areas of the country. The aim of the next phase is to educate a further 30,000 young people and 40,000 adults. It wil take us 3 years to complete our aims. It costs £1,000 a year to broadcast on local radio. This can only happen with your help, so please support this great work.
